Help
How can we help?
Straight answers to what writers ask most. Step-by-step guides for each platform arrive with the launch. Want to see it first? Try the live demo.
Getting started
How do I make my first issue?
Paste your notes, a draft or a short prompt as text. Pick a shape (Digest, Essay, Update, Promo, Welcome or Curation) or let canvasletter choose, and it designs the issue in your brand kit in seconds. If the layout isn't right, try another design.
Does it write the newsletter for me?
It designs your words, and it can draft from your notes when you ask. You stay the editor: change anything with a click or a sentence, and nothing leaves canvasletter until you press the button.
Brand kits
What goes into a brand kit?
Six email colors, one of eight type pairings, a corner style, your logos and your footer. Paste your website and canvasletter suggests a logo, palette, type and voice from it, or start from one of four starter kits.
How does it learn my voice?
From one to three writing samples you add to your brand kit. They steer only what the AI writes, never your own sentences.
Can I upload my own fonts?Later
Not yet. Every plan chooses from curated type pairings, and uploading your own brand fonts comes at launch. Gmail and most versions of Outlook ignore web fonts, so each pairing is built so its fallback, such as Georgia or Helvetica, still looks deliberate.
Editing
How do I change something?
Click any text to edit it, or ask the AI for a change in plain words, to one section or the whole issue. Each AI change is one undo step, and a locked section stays exactly as it is. Version history keeps earlier drafts.
Where do the facts come from?
Only from what you give it. The AI keeps your figures, quotes and links as you wrote them, and a check after every draft removes anything it can't trace back to your words.
Export and platforms
Which email platforms work, and how does export work?
canvasletter compiles your issue for Kit, beehiiv, MailerLite, Mailchimp, Ghost, Buttondown, Brevo or Klaviyo, or as plain HTML, with that platform's merge tags in place. Copy or download it, with a plain-text version, and paste it into your platform's HTML editor. Some platforms accept custom HTML only on certain plans, such as beehiiv's paid plans. You can also publish a web version and send a test to yourself. Pushing a draft straight to Kit or Mailchimp comes at launch.
Does it work with Substack?
Not for sending. Substack's editor doesn't accept custom HTML, so a designed issue can't be pasted in intact. Publish it as a canvasletter web version instead and link to it from anywhere, Substack included.
What happens to my issues if I leave?
They're yours. Export any issue as HTML and plain text at any time, on any plan, including free. Owners and admins can also export the whole workspace as one zip file from Settings: every issue, brand kit and image, sent to you as a download link.
AI credits
What are AI credits?
AI credits pay for AI actions at fixed prices: generating an issue uses 10, editing the whole issue with a sentence uses 3, and editing one section uses 1. Free includes 60 AI credits a month and Pro includes 500. Editing by hand, exporting, web versions and test sends use none.
Privacy
Is my writing used to train AI?
No. Our AI providers don't train their models on data sent through their commercial APIs, and we don't use your writing to train models either. The details are in our privacy policy.
